There is something truly special about
being in the studio; its an energy, a vibe that can't be described.
This is the moment that a band captures the emotion, the tears in
disguise, happiness in their eyes, the raw beauty of a song before
the rendezvous of a producers touch. And it's every time I find
myself here with a band or artist, I never know what to expect, but
what I do know is that I am going to witness something truly unique
and un-mastered; the most raw that artist will ever be. It was this
exact tone I found myself in a few nights ago, sitting in the studio
overseeing the latest session of a band I had never known and a sound
that I had never been shown. But after this long night alongside
remarkable producer Devin Turner, and three songs later I can only
say that this sophisticated five have a sexy funk rock swoon
guaranteed to excite any ear, and it was then I had surrendered to
the The Finishing Movement.
For the session, the band prepared
three covers one of which was Micheal Jackson's Rock With You.
This dynamic group of musicians truly know how to make something
their own, and if you know anything about sound production and good
music, you'll notice that there are some key components that The
Finishing Movement aren't afraid of flaunting. Zoran's classic
and crisp cut vintage guitar riffs signify the roots of funk
complimenting the heavy jazz attitude the band creates, producing a
truly unique and zesty tone that any funk fan would melt over.
Natalia's deep molasses vocals fill your ears and envelop your heart
strings carrying the ensemble, while accented by the harmonious
“sax-ual healing” licks of Dennis. The pairing of Marc's
impossible to miss, punchy and in your face bass style along with
Sean's poppy and rhythmic drumming kicks up the senses, taking you on
a sensual roller coaster. The Finishing Movement is the perfect
combination of provocative tones and classic style; a truly seductive
sound.
As the evening unfolded, it was quite
something to have the opportunity to hang out with the band. If you
know either of these musicians, you know that you can truly hear
their personality in their music. The collaboration of Marc, Sean,
Dennis, Natalia, and Zoran create a sound seriously worth listening
to. Though the band has a history of numerous member changes, its
clear now that this group of savvy musicians is fate long over due.
Only in the last few months has this band been able to grow together
and as musicians, despite their busy lives, to create a noteworthy
style that has a modern sound but paramount soul. Though what I had
a chance to witness in the studio weren't original compositions, the
band assures me that in the near future that they shall be in the
studio recording original tracks. As a new found fan, I am genuinely
excited to see how The Finishing Movement up scales the
competition. Judging by the past experience of each musician, the
future of this group can only promise great things, for the artists
and the fans.
After the session, the evening
progressed to a popular local restaurant a few blocks away, and this
is where I really got to see who these individuals were. This is a
band of not only great musicians but distinct and dedicated
individuals, and it was a pleasure to share this experience with such
an upbeat and good humored group of talented artists. This night
wasn't only about watching how great musical abilities can come
together to make a song, but seeing how the charisma of a group
combines to reflect a unique style. Ostentatious and attention
worthy, The Finishing Movement is definitely a group to
follow. Though the band remains concealed to most, this fresh
formation is ready to show an audience what they're really about. If
you are in search of a performance as smooth as chocolate, than this
is a movement in the right direction. Great people with even
greater soul, working with The Finishing Movement is yet
another of many experiences I have had, and will have, that make my
passion so much more rewarding. When I have the opportunity to share
such genuine experiences with any and every artist, I learn to
recognize a new appreciation for music I never heard before.
It is nights like these that make me realize how much I love my career. Having amazing opportunities to meet and work with artists from various musical backgrounds is something I have dreamed of and aspired too for most of my short years. And to make this dream even better, I get to share my experiences and knowledge with you, the fan. I want to be able to share my stories with an audience, let them into a world that they would not normally have access to. I want to share the artist and the music with the fan on a more intimate and personal level enabling a true understanding of the music and the people that created it. Being in the studio with The Finishing Movement was truly a night to remember; a night of sheer wonder and discovery, enlightenment and luster.
